Axial fans with customized fan sleeve for use in medical technology
Task
Appliances used in a medical environment should function as quietly as possible and produce a minimum of vibration so that the comfort of the patients and the working environment of the medical personnel are not adversely affected. Our customer wanted not only a particularly quiet cooling solution for the application in question but also one that is simple to mount and does not require screws.
Solution
In this particular case SEPA EUROPE‘s fail-safe axial fan PLB60B has proved its worth. With its compact design (60x60x15 mm) and light weight (34 g) the PLB60B can be accurately positioned to ensure effective cooling. The fan is equipped with ball bearings and has a service life (MTBF) of 350000 hours at 40°C.
In order to dampen structure-borne sounds, the fan specialists at SEPA EUROPE recommended the use of an elastic fan sleeve for mounting purposes. It not only reduces the noise of the fan but also enables quick attachment on mounting plates or housings.
Owing to the special housing design of the axial fan PLB60B there was no suitable standard sleeve available so that a prototype was produced with the aid of a 3D print during the product development process. The customer tested the prototype and was able to request changes that were then given consideration. The sleeves went into series production after the release by the customer.
