Electronics deheating with and without fan
Fanless – a quality feature?
The term “fanless” is often understood as a synonym for “reliable” and the electromechanical component fan is classified as a risk factor. However, the fanless design often has to be bought with many disadvantages, so that it ultimately contains more risks than a design with a fan. These are the advantages and disadvantages of both concepts at a glance.
The widespread poor quality of cheap fans leads to a high probability of device failure with high costs for repair and, above all, high follow-up costs. Developers therefore try to reduce the risk of failure with designs without fans. In doing so, they do not consider that the low reliability of fans is only a consequence of the very low price this component may cost. It is almost always overlooked that as the device temperature increases, the risk of failure of the electrolytic capacitors increases dramatically …
