Finger guards, dust guards and
EMC protection
In addition to high-quality fans and CPU coolers, SEPA EUROPE GmbH also offers appropriate, inexpensive guards for different requirements. In addition to the simple wire finger guards, our delivery program also includes plastic dust guards with a replaceable 45ppi filter medium.
Two different shapes of guards are available for EMC sensitive applications; a close-meshed metal guard and a simple, coarse-meshed guard that can be combined with the above-mentioned plastic dust guard.
The standard finger guard
The standard finger guard Type FG, FGA or FGB has a concentric design comprising wire rings. The gap between the ring circles must be just small enough to prevent the fingers entering the fan and unintentionally coming into contact with live parts or mechanically moved parts.
The guard comprises iron wire rings that are electrically welded to 2-4 radially positioned wires. These wires usually have hooks at the end of them for attaching the guard. Corrosion is prevented by an electrochemical chrome plating. The high quality and the bonding of the chrome surface is achieved by a copper sublayer.
This ensures that the guards are extremely resistant to the normal environmental conditions while simultaneously meeting the high optical demands. Thanks to the powder coating, finger guards are available in a variety of colours and can be adapted as desired to the relevant appliance
design.
The standard guards are available in the standard sizes adapted to the fan dimensions e.g. 25×25 mm to 150x170mm, however they can of course be customized with regard to both special dimensions and shapes.
Protection guard made of plastic
If a wire guard is not desired, e.g. for optical reasons, a plastic finger guard Type FGK is used. In many cases it is also necessary to prevent the ingress of foreign objects and dust. For this purpose, the plastic guard is equipped with an additional cover behind which a filter mat and fine-mesh plastic guard Type LFG is located.
The cover can be removed so that the filter mat can be either replaced or cleaned. EMC shielding is achieved by inserting a 0.25 mm thin shield sheet of stainless steel Type FSB underneath the plastic guard with electrical contact to the metal housing. A special grid pattern ensures an optimum shielding effect with simultaneous negligible pressure loss.

EMC applications
An EMC fan screen grid Type FM is available if a higher EMC protection is required. It comprises a metal frame and a fine wire mesh filter and is screwed (conducting) to the metal housing using countersunk screws. This filter also prevents the ingress of small particles >0.5 mm.
Finger guard with e-coating
The new FM guard provides developers and device manufacturers alike with a solution that combines the functional protection requirements with a high-quality harmonious appearance.
The FM guard has the IP40 protection rating and has a metal frame with a fine wire mesh. It is screwed directly to the metal housing using countersunk screws. This construction is easy to install and is a robust solution for industrial devices and housings
The guard is available in sizes ranging from 40 mm to 120 mm, provides protection against accidental contact and prevents the penetration of dirt and dust particles that are larger than 0.5mm.
The e-coating is a key characteristic. The coating in question is an electrophoretic coating where the metallic component is immersed into a paint bath and evenly coated using an electric field. The result is a homogeneous, resilient surface with excellent coating of the edges. This process has several advantages: The e-coating improves protection against corrosion, provides a uniform surface finish and ensures high process reliability in series production. The clean aesthetic appearance simultaneously contributes, in particular in the line of sight, to a significantly higher perception of the product quality.

special hygienic requirements
In the medical sector, foodstuffs industry and laboratory technology particularly high requirements must be fulfilled with regard to temperature and corrosion resistance. Stainless steel wire finger guards are available for these special applications.
additional significant benefit to the material properties of stainless steel. The special reworking makes it considerably more difficult for germs to remain on the surface. Furthermore, electropolished surfaces are less susceptible to corrosion.
FG250BK fan guard for black housing
The latest addition to the range of accessories is the attractive and robust fan guard FG250BK.With a diameter of 250 mm it is the ideal guard for the KA2072 axial fan.
The black powder-coated metal not only enhances the high-quality, aesthetic finish but also provides an excellent protection against corrosion. Together with the black housing, this guard lends the overall design an unpretentious yet harmonious appearance.
The standard fan guard is not only available in black but also in other colours upon request and can also be provided in other dimensions. The FG250BK can be adapted to meet customer-specific requirements and varying design concepts.
