The TDP determines the amount of heat generated by a component during operation and the cooling capacity that is required to keep it at an acceptable temperature.<\/p>\n<p>It is important to give the TDP adequate consideration as insufficient cooling can result in overheating which in turn adversely affects the performance of the component and in the worst case can cause permanent damage. A component that is too hot can become unstable, its service life is shortened and even sudden failure can occur.<\/p>\n<p>When selecting a fan therefore it is important to take into account the TDP of the component that requires cooling. The fan should be capable of effectively dissipating the generated heat so that overheating is avoided. The performance of the fan must either match the TDP of the component or be higher to allow for sufficient leeway.<\/p>\n<p>However, the TDP is not the only relevant factor that should be given consideration when selecting a fan. A significant role play also:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the size of the fan<\/li>\n<li>the flow rate<\/li>\n<li>the noise level<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A larger fan can dissipate more heat but it requires more space in the housing.
